Featured singers with the Ike & Tina Turner revue, the Ikettes’ first recording session was in 1961 when they cut ‘I’m Blue’ for Atco, which gave them an immediate hit and three more singles on the label. 1962 saw them on Ike’s Teena logo. Moving to the Modern label in 1963, they recorded their best-know work including ‘Fine, Fine, Fine’, ‘Peaches 'N' Cream’ and the wonderfully slinky ‘I’m So Thankful’. Although they hardly ever had a settled line-up, Robbie Montgomery and Venetta Fields were key members, with the latter delivering some wonderful bluesy leads. When the group became the Mirettes in the mid-60s, Ike Turner kept the Ikettes name going with new members for a few more years.
