Shortly after Rick Nelson was born in New Jersey in 1940, his parents moved the family to Hollywood where they used their show business connections to build their career. They developed a radio show about their life, with Ricky, as he was until 1961, joining them in 1949. The show transferred to TV in 1952, quickly becoming a national favourite and giving Ricky a platform to showcase his musical talent. Initially on Verve Records, he had his first hit in 1957 before moving to Imperial where he enjoyed a healthy run of well respected chart records until 1963, then switched to Decca. Always a serious musician, Rick moved nto country rock in the mid-60s. A plane crash in 1985 ended a classy career very well represented in the Ace catalogue.
