Chuck Berry's early LPs all had at least one or two lazy, groovy blues tunes tucked in alongside his classic rock and roll and On The Blues Side assembles the best of them into one brilliant collection. A showcase for the bluesman behind the rock and roll star On The Blues Side includes 1955's Wee Wee Hours, Down The Road Apiece, The Things That I Used To Do, Willie Dixon's I Just Want To Make Love To You (both later covered by The Rolling Stones), Driftin' Blues and Merry Christmas Baby (both from the Charles Brown/Johnny Moore school that so influenced Chuck) and two previously unissued performances - I Still Got The Blues and I Just Want To Make Love To You. As sleeve note writer Tony Watson points out "Chuck Berry has remained unassailable as the black poet laureate of rock 'n' roll, but he never forgot his blues roots...neither should we."
