The founder of Takoma Records, John Fahey started out as a one-man industry, pressing 100 copies of his first album, which he distributed in part by putting into the racks at thrift stores. Ever the eccentric he produced a slew of albums that developed the American primitive school of guitar playing. He could tackle just about any style and did. His first recordings came out as 78s on Joe Bussard Jr's Fonotone label and half his debut album was as by Blind Joe Death. Among the many eccentricities was re-recording whole albums, frequently ending his albums with a hymn, and on the Vanguard album "The Yellow Princess" he even recorded 'The Swinging Bridge Of Memphis, Tn', which was just that. Oh that such wilful spirits were more prevalent.
