Born in 1935 in Lousiana, the young Jerry Lee Lewis soaked up a variety of influences including gospel and country music. Aware of his determination to be a musician, his family bought him an upright piano. His father took him to Memphis where he played some country songs at Sun Studios, leading to the release of ‘Crazy Arms’ in 1956. ‘Whole Lot Of Shakin’ Going On’ and ‘Great Balls Of Fire’ introduced the world to his wilder style the following year and cemented his wildman persona. Known for the extreme aspects of his almost soap opera life, his rock’n’roll hits had dried up by the early 60s, but he continued working with a mixture of country and rock songs, producing albums that proved he still had attitude and talent aplenty.
