Jerry Jeff Walker was born in upstate New York in 1942. For much of his formative years he lived a vagabond existence that gave him plenty of material for his songwriting. By 1967 he was part of Vanguard Records group Circus Maximus. He soon went solo, cutting the lovely “Drifting Way Of Life” album which defined his style. He then cut three albums for Atco, a run of 10 for MCA and a couple for Elektra/Asylum during the 70s and early 80s. The city of Austin, Texas and its environs gave him the freedom and sympathetic sidemen to develop his laid back musical persona. His best-known song, ‘Mr Bojangles’, has been covered by many varied artists. Still working and issuing quality albums, he maintains a solid fan base and reputation.
