Antoine “Fats” Domino was born in 1928 and began playing the piano at age five. By his teens he was performing in New Orleans clubs, where he was spotted by trumpeter Dave Bartholomew who became his long-term co-writer and producer. Bartholomew arranged for Fats to be signed to Imperial Records where he landed his first hit with ‘The Fat Man’ in 1950. By 1956 he was acknowledged as one of the stars of rock’n’roll with hits such as ‘Ain’t That A Shame’, ‘I’m In Love Again’ and ‘Blueberry Hill’. The sale of Imperial Records in 1963 and the British Invasion pretty well ended his chart success but Fats remained a popular live act for decades to follow.
