Do not let the dominance of that one Robert Johnson lick obscure the fact that Elmore James was one of the greatest and most influential of bluesmen. He may have used the 'Dust My Broom' signature a lot, but it still thrills every time it spits out of his over amplified guitar. He also launched a thousand, often pale imitators, but no one ever quite captured the feral sound of his playing or the visceral intensity of his vocals. If Robert Johnson had lived long enough to go electric, he might well have sounded like this.
