New Jersey-raised Dean Friedman began playing piano and guitar early on, eventually studying at City College where he was taught guitar by David Bromberg. In his early 20s he landed a contract with Cashman & West's Lifesong label where his eponymous first album yielded the hit single ‘Ariel’. In 1978 he reached the UK Top 3 with ‘Lucky Stars’ from his second album. He maintained a career writing TV commercials and also composed the theme music for the TV show Boon. In 2002 he became one of the first to fund an album, “The Treehouse Journals”, via internet pre-orders. Still recording and performing, his songs remain delightfully wry and quirky observational slices of life.
