aka Barry Wonder, Barrister is synonymous with the explosive percussive sound of Fuji, based on Islamic music, but with roots deep back into Nigeria’s past. Born in 1948, he joined the army in 1967 during Nigeria’s civil war where he started his musical career. He left the army in 1976 and became a full time musician, going from strength to strength with his four singers, ten to 12 percussionists and a Hawaiian steel guitar playing seven hour overnight sets. He has made countless recordings, with his GlobeStyle Records outing, “New Fuji Garbage” a stand-out.
