Albert King joined Stax relatively late on during the period of Atlantic distribution, but he stayed to the bitter end, even returning after the label was purchased by Fantasy. In some ways it might seem unusual for the label that defined Southern Soul to sign such a pure blues player. But as the years went passing by, Albert's style kept very much in tune with where the blues was going. The funk came in, but it was still distinctively Albert King. He is a true originator having been a big influence on many of the 60s white blues boomers, Eric Clapton included. In 1999 Fantasy released a 1983 session on which Albert was joined by another acolyte Stevie Ray Vaughan. The blistering jam session that ensued was thankfully taped and is a fitting tribute to both of these, sadly departed, players.
